From Planar Systems, Inc.
Applications may benefit by using grayscales. Several video controllers have methods for generating grayscales on monochrome displays, including the ICEBriteTM family. This note addresses the Chips and Technologies (C&T) 65530 and 65535 controllers. Other video controller manufacturers, such as SMOS and Cirrus Logic, also provide methods to generate grayscales. Planar’s ICEBrite displays use a similar video interface to those used by many VGA-sized (640x480 addressability) monochrome LCDs. Planar’s ICEBrite displays have a maximum frame rate frequency of 120 Hz, about double the maximum frame rate frequency of conventional VGA EL displays. Using the ICEBrite display’s higher frame rate frequency, combined with flat panel controllers designed for this faster display, it is possible to generate a wider range of usable grays through frame rate control and dithering. Products & Services
Flat panel displays (FPDs) are thin, flat, electronic devices used to display data. They are commonly used in notebook computers. Most styles include the housing and ports necessary to connect them to a computer.
Liquid crystal display (LCD) modules are used at the component level in place of less efficient displays such as cathode ray tubes (CRTs). These modules do not include a housing and must be incorporated into a larger instrument or system.
Multi-screen display controllers are used to control and project multiple images on the same screen.
Low light cameras are designed for low light applications. They contain sensors that are highly sensitive to light and reduce images to a series of lines.
Scan and video converters transform a digital computer image to a standard video signal for use with broadcasting or video devices such as televisions, monitors, or VCRs or vice versa.
