From Planar Systems, Inc.
Planar offers many electroluminescent (EL) displays with a very thin polycarbonate film of anti-glare (AG) coating laminated onto the display. By providing a microscopically rough surface, the resulting construction diffuses glare while transmitting 90% of the luminance of the clear display glass. As shown in Figure 1, the addition of this bonded film scatters the specular reflection, greatly reducing glare and improving viewability. The customer is responsible for determining the suitability and functionality of these products in their applications. The following details are provided to assist customers in the evaluation and use of AG film on Planar displays. Planar ICE displays have excellent contrast in most ambient light conditions. The circular polarizers that were recommended for contrast enhancement in non-ICE products are no longer necessary. However in applications where specular reflection of ambient light diminishes viewability, an AG film on the topmost viewing surface is still recommended. In applications where a protective acrylic sheet is the front surface, the AG film should be applied to the acrylic sheet. Products & Services
