Typically, most variable speed applications are just that, and require that the speed of the motor driving the load be controlled to some degree against a known reference. Examples are abundant when applied to pumps, conveyors, dynamometers, mixers, and many more. However, in some applications, controlling the speed is necessary but not sufficient in controlling the process. When speed control alone does not achieve desired results, then outer Proportional-Integral (PI) loop control can be applied.
One example is a metal strip that must be elongated to a set percent as part of the process. This type of operation involves measurement and consideration of strip tension or measured elongation by position feedback as part of the control. To elongate a moving strip, one drive must run incrementally faster relative to its upstream drive. This must be regulated in a dynamic fashion such as what a PI loop can provide, otherwise the strip will not have uniform thickness and be out of spec.
Products & Services
Web controllers maintain control functionality over processes with web or sheet rollers. Control functionality includes maintaining tension of the web, centering on the track, and material feed rates.
Pressure controllers accept input from pressure sensors, transmitters, gauges, and other devices and subsequently control adjustment to the pressure to maintain or achieve the desired pressure level.
Universal process controllers constitute a broad area of control devices that may be employed in the monitoring and control of many different process variables, including temperature, pressure, flow and other values.
Level controllers monitor, regulate, and control liquid or solid levels in a process.
Stock and strip feeders supply continuous or discrete lengths of bar, strip, wire or other stock to a machine tool.
