Using Regenerative Converter Units to Recover Over Voltage Energy in AC Drive Systems

From Hitachi America, Ltd. / Industrial Systems Division

Regeneration occurs in an AC variable frequency drive system when the load overhauls the motor. This can occur when trying to decelerate the load, or when some external force causes the motor to overhaul, causing the motor to act like a generator. The energy contained in the rotating equipment flows into the drive, and is manifested as increased DC bus voltage in the inverter.

Products & Services
AC motor starters are used to turn-on and turn-off electric motors and motor-controlled equipment. They use solid-state or electromechanical technologies, and are designed for single-phase or three-phase motors. Search by Specification | Learn more about AC Motor Starters
Motor starters and contactors are motor-starting devices. They combine a contactor with overload protection and are designed for starting AC or DC motors. Search by Specification | Learn more about Motor Starters and Contactors
AC motor drives interface controllers to AC motors. They match the control signals (voltage and power levels) as well as the signal type (analog or digital). They also provide power conversion, amplification, and the sequencing of waveform signals. Search by Specification | Learn more about AC Motor Drives
