Flat Networks for Flat Organizations

In the past SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems were built using a complex pyramid of networked PLC's. These PLC's communicate real time control information using proprietary information networks. An emerging class of machine mounted I/O products now offer a better approach. These products can be used to report directly to the supervisory system without traveling through multiple PLC layers.
