The process system begins with the BEMP™ belt scale controlling and measuring the rate of potatoes coming into the process on a conveyor belt. The DISOCONT® control on the belt scale communicates the actual rate to the DG-2000™ Group Controller. When the potatoes reach the enrober, they are first coated with oil by a spray pump. The amount of oil dispensed on the potatoes is accurately measured with a flowmeter, utilizing a DISOCONT® control. After coating the potatoes with oil, seasoning is applied with a gravimetric MECHATRON® feeder and spreading nozzle. Because each seasoning is applied at a different rate, the group controller's management and communication of the various ratios in each recipe is crucial to the accurate feeding of the product within the enrober. From the enrober, the seasoned potatoes move onto a discharge belt to an area where they are packaged.
The customer contacted SCHENCK AccuRate for recommendations to improve their seasoning process. After thoroughly testing the customer's materials in SCHENCK AccuRate's lab, a system was proposed. The recommended system included the following equipment:
