After a 30-year career in the environmental engineering area, I served 10 years as the Director of Examinations for the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The NCEES develops and grades the examinations that all 50 states and 5 jurisdictions of the USA use in licensing engineers and land surveyors. During my time at the NCEES, approximately 500,000 candidates sat for the Fundamentals (FE/EIT) and about 300,000 took the Principles and Practice (PE) examinations.
