From tormach.com
Tormach offers both a Small Tapping Head (PN 30613) and Large Tapping Head (PN 30612). These are reversing style tapping heads, designed to be loaded in the PCNC 1100 mill as a TTS tool and used to thread previously drilled holes under CNC control.
Tapping of small holes on CNC mills is normally accomplished using one of 3 methods: 1) reversing tap head, 2) tension-compression tap head, or 3) rigid tapping.
An auto-reverse tap head has an internal gear/clutch mechanism which pro¬vides two functions. First, it will allow compliance in length to accommodate variation between spindle rotation speed and Z-axis speed as the tap screws into the hole. Secondly, it contains a gear clutch mechanism that will reverse rotation of the tap as the tap head withdraws. This allows the tap to screw itself out of the newly threaded hole without the need for reversing the spindle.
Products & Services
Drilling units and tapping units are machine tool components for automated drilling and tapping applications. They usually consist of a drilling head, chuck or collet, motor, and in-feed cylinder or mechanism.
Machining and multiple spindle heads are specialized tool holders that mount on machine tool spindles. Multi-spindle heads carry multiple tools at the same time for performing simultaneous machining operations.
Drilling and tapping machines are used to drill or thread holes in a surface.
CNC controllers are used to control machines and processes. They provide capabilities ranging from simple point-to-point linear control to highly complex algorithms with multiple axes of control. CNC controllers are used to retrofit many types of machine shop equipment.
