Solvent Recovery Using a Near-Infrared ChemView® Photometer
From Guided Wave Incorporated

Purpose: To measure the concentrations of ethyl acetate (EtOAc- 80-90%), methanol (MeOH - <10%) and water (<10%) for continuous control of a solvent recovery process to reduce distillation time and processing costs.

Approach: Use our PS-2E diode array spectro-photometer to collect the NIR spectra at 30 °C in a 2 mm cuvette in our Heater- Cell accessory. Perform a partial least-squares (PLS) analysis. Use the number of PLS Factors and the Beta Coefficients to determine the number and locations of the wavelengths to use in an MLR model. Extract the absorbance data at those wavelengths and import them into Microsoft® Excel®. Use our OutlierDetect™ Excel® add-in to determine the MLR coefficients and perform the outlier analysis.

Products & Services
Distillation equipment and solvent recovery systems are used for steam and wastewater stripping, chemical product purification, and solvent recovery.
Flame photometers use atomic emission for the routine detection of metal salts, principally sodium (Na), potassium (K), lithium (Li) and calcium (Ca).
Diode arrays are composed of multiple discrete (usually unconnected) diodes on a single silicon chip. Diode arrays are important semiconductor products because they save assembly time and improve reliability over individually packaged diodes. In general, diode arrays use four or more diodes in a single package.
Dye lasers use a dye solution as an active medium. Their output is a short pulse of broad spectrum content with a high achievable gain.
Wafer and thin film instrumentation includes quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) monitors, ellipsometers, RHEED systems, imaging stations, CD-SEMs, ion mills, and C-V systems specifically designed for wafer metrology or in-situ monitoring of thin film parameters during thin film or semiconductors wafer processing.
