Revolutionary New Seals Built to Last in Abrasive Environment

From Garlock Sealing Technologies

When Randy Webb called one of his chemical plant customers in northern Ohio recently, the JNO. J. Disch Company sales engineer thought he might have a new solution to a nagging problem at the facility. Over the past five years, the plant had been seeking an alternative to the double titanium mechanical seals used on a series of ANSI pumps. The mechanical seals had limited durability in the corrosive environment of the plant. In most cases, the seals lasted a mere 4 weeks at a time...6 weeks at most. The piping system was used to pump brine solution throughout the plant. It is easy to understand why the hostile environment was so hard on equipment and seals. In addition, the titanium seals were expensive, costing $1,500- $1,800 to replace and requiring a shut-down of plant equipment during repairs. This pump system in the plant production line contained 11 pumps which could easily mean as much as $215,000 or more in mechanical seal repairs for one line during a given year; plus lost production time.

Products & Services
Metal ring seals are static devices that can withstand high operating temperatures, pressures, and vacuums. They can also withstand cryogenic conditions and high face-to-face cycling. Search by Specification | Learn more about Metal Ring Seals
Hydraulic seals and pneumatic seals include piston seals, rod seals, U-cups, vee, cup, and flange packings. Search by Specification | Learn more about Hydraulic Seals and Pneumatic Seals
Dynamic seals include oil seals, hydraulic and pneumatic seals, exclusion seals, labyrinth seals, bearing isolators, and piston rings. They create a barrier between moving and stationary surfaces in applications such as rotating shafts and pistons rings.  This is a general search form; more detailed search forms are available. Compression packing seals or gland seals are deformable materials used to prevent or control the leakage of fluid between surfaces that move in relation to each other. Search by Specification | Learn more about Compression Packing Seals
Expansion joints connect two fixed assemblies or pipes and provide allowance for movement due to service load, shock, or thermal cycles. Search by Specification | Learn more about Expansion Joints
