Comparative Studies of Anodic Coatings Formed in the METALAST and Traditional Electrolytes (part 2)

From METALAST International, Inc.

In previous report, the comparative studies of anodic coatings formed in the METALAST and traditional electrolytes under Type II condition (at 70 °F, 24 ASF)were made. The influence of the METALAST additive on the resultant anodic films was assessed by comparing films formed under similar conditions in sulfuric acid with and without METALAST additive, with particular regard to the chemical dissolution rate of anodic coatings, coating weight, coating ratio, apparent coating density, the net weight gain of anodized samples and the weight loss caused by aluminum consumption during anodizing. It is evident that the addition of METALAST additive has a protective effect on the oxide from chemical dissolution and thus the relatively higher apparent density and higher coating ratio of the oxide are obtained. In extending the previous experiments, the present report has paid attention to the comparative investigations of anodic coatings formed in the METALAST and traditional electrolytes under Type III condition (at 32 °F, 30 ASF).
