A Comparative Study of Current and Conversion Efficiency of the METALAST Anodizing Processes With and Without the METALAST Additive
From METALAST International, Inc.

The anodic current efficiency and conversion efficiency of the anodizing process in a traditional electrolyte was determined by weight loss measurements and atomic absorption spectrophotometric analysis of the stripping solutions containing the dissolved anodic coating products. Accordingly, the percentage of aluminum oxide and aluminum sulfate in the resulting anodic coatings was estimated as well. It was found that all the results from the traditional electrolyte are consistent with the previous results from the METALAST bath. On one hand, this suggests that the results are very reproducible and the experimental method is very reliable. The high conversion efficiency and high current efficiency of the METALAST process were further confirmed in this investigation. On the other hand, however, it appears that the current METALAST additive does not isignificantly affect the anodic current efficiency and conversion efficiency. The high conversion efficiency and the high current efficiency of the METALAST technology may chiefly result from the benefits of the proprietary recipes, computerized control, and optimized electrolyte composition.
