Hydrophobic Polymers for Liquid Cleaning Formulations

From Alco Chemical

A patented method to provide acrylic acid:styrene (AA:Sty)copolymers with a variety of AA:Sty mole ratios is described. This method allows the polymer to be provided as a solution in water with up to 50 mole percent styrene. The addition of significant amounts of styrene provides increased solubility in liquid laundry detergents without sacrificing the traditional benefits of typical polycarboxylates. Polycarboxylate polymers can now be supplied in water with a wide variety and significant molar level of hydrophobic monomers. These materials offer the formulator tremendous advantages over current materials with regard to compatibility and multifunctional performance. In this first of a series of articles, we will discuss how one particular type of polymer can provide added benefits, especially in liquid cleaning formulations.

Products & Services
Thermoplastics and thermoplastic materials soften when heated and harden when cooled. They can withstand many heating and cooling cycles and are often suitable for recycling. Search by Specification | Learn more about Thermoplastics and Thermoplastic Materials
Monomers, intermediates, and base polymers are starting raw materials or binders for the production of compounded resins, plastics and elastomers, paints or organic coatings, adhesives and sealants; Learn more about Monomers, Intermediates and Base Polymers
Polymers and plastic materials are organic, synthetic or processed polymers that are supplied as raw materials or stock shapes. They typically consist of thermoplastic or thermosetting resins and can be made into many forms. Search by Specification | Learn more about Polymers and Plastic Materials
Anaerobic adhesives and anaerobic sealants cure in the absence of air or oxygen. Search by Specification | Learn more about Anaerobic Adhesives and Anaerobic Sealants
Pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) and contact adhesives adhere to most surfaces with very slight pressure. They are available in solvent and latex or water-based forms. Search by Specification | Learn more about Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) and Contact Adhesives
