A dry-reed switch can be defined as an assembly that contains two ferromagnetic NiFe contact blades, hermetically sealed in a glass envelope and filled with an inert gas. The inert gas atmosphere protects the contact resistance of the reed switch, which is one of its most important electrical performance characteristics. The inert atmosphere is maintained by the integrity of the critical glass-to-metal seal of the switch. This seal is defined as a “residual stress seal,” which means that the seal is sensitive to handling. When properly made, this seal with maintain the inert gas atmosphere of the reed switch for a minimum of thirty (30) years. However, improper handling of the switch and the application of excessive mechanical force during modification of the switch leads may result in a loss of the seal hermeticity.
Products & Services
Reed switches are magnetically actuated switches. They are typically manufactured with two ferromagnetic reeds (contact blades), which are sealed in a glass capsule. In the presence of a magnet, the blades (contacts) close.
Switches are devices that allow electric current to flow when closed and prevent current flow when opened. Switches, All Types are a high level search form that includes options for all switch types. Search forms for specific switch actuator types are also available.
Reed relays are electrically-operated switching devices that consist of two thin, magnetic strips (reeds) encapsulated in a glass envelope. They are used to switch industrial components such as solenoids, contactors and starter motors.
Thermostats and thermal switches are electro-mechanical on/off switches that are activated by temperature changes. They are typically used to control heating and cooling systems.
Crucibles are vessels used to melt and process materials at high temperatures.
