Ten Tips for Getting the Best Performance from Photocurable Adhesives

From Ablestik Laboratories

Photocurable, ultraviolet (UV)- and light-curing adhesives are value-added replacements for traditional adhesives and are essential for many high-tech assembly operations where high throughput and delicate components are required. OEMs and other assemblers are switching to light cure products to meet the need for lower temperature curing and faster setting adhesives and coatings. Here are ten tips to get the best performance from photocurable adhesives. 1. Choose the appropriate adhesive for the application. This involves: • Understanding how the adhesive will be applied • Choosing the right adhesive for the substrates involved • Understanding what performance requirements are necessary. 2. Use a lamp system that provides • Sufficient intensity at the appropriate wavelength • An emission spectrum matched to the absorption of the photoinitiators • Complete coverage of the area to be bonded.

Products & Services
UV curing adhesives use ultraviolet (UV) light or other radiation sources to initiate curing, which allows a permanent bond without heating. Search by Specification | Learn more about UV Curing Adhesives
Rubber adhesives and sealants are highly flexible, natural or synthetic materials that are used to join components or fill gaps between seams or on surfaces. Search by Specification | Learn more about Rubber Adhesives and Sealants
Silicone adhesives and sealants have a high degree of flexibility and a very high temperature resistance (up to 600° F), but lack the strength of other epoxy or acrylic resins. Search by Specification | Learn more about Silicone Adhesives and Sealants
Industrial adhesives consist of hot melt adhesives, epoxy adhesives, polyurethane adhesives, sealants, thermoset adhesives, UV curing adhesives, silicon adhesives, acrylic adhesives and other related industrial products. Search by Specification | Learn more about Industrial Adhesives
Epoxy adhesives are chemical compounds for joining components. They require clean surfaces and are valued for their toughness and resistance to chemical and environmental damage. Search by Specification | Learn more about Epoxy Adhesives
