Why Does the Gold Cone Work So Well?

From FARR Air Pollution Control

The pleated filter cone in the middle of the Gold Cone cartridge has four benefits: 1) adds additional media area to the cartridge to allow for more airflow per cartridge in a more compact space than has ever been achieved before, 2) the hole in the bottom of the filter opens up more useable area in the dust collector, thus reducing interstital can velocities, 3) disperses the pulse air more evenly throughout the length of the filter cartridge for more effective use of the pulse energy, and 4) the direction of the pulse coming out of the cone is straight down into the hopper away from the filters, forcing light dust particles into the hopper and out of the air stream. This paper will explore each of these four benefits, but first lets address a fundamental issue of horizontal vs vertical filter configuration. For this discussion "can velocity" will refer to the average velocity of air approaching the filters using the entire cross sectional area of the dust collector. "Interstital can velocity" will refer to the accelerated velocity where air passes into the filter section and is calcualted by taking the total cross sectional area of the collector minus the cross sectional area of the filters.

Products & Services
Dust collectors are used in many processes to either recover valuable granular solid or powder from process streams or to remove granular solid pollutants from exhaust gases prior to venting to the atmosphere. Search by Specification | Learn more about Dust Collectors
Downdraft tables are self-contained, portable filtration systems that remove harmful particulates and return filtered air. Search by Specification | Learn more about Downdraft Tables
Cyclone separators and centrifugal separators utilize centrifugal, gravitational, and inertial forces to remove fine particles suspended in air or gas. Search by Specification | Learn more about Cyclone Separators
Baghouses and Depth Filters utilize air flow throw filter media (often in the shape of a bag) to capture particulate matter.  Filter elements with pleated media and other porous materials (ceramics, glass fibers, etc.) are also used. Mist collectors and fume collectors reduce the amount of mist, aerosols and fumes in the workplace atmosphere. Search by Specification | Learn more about Mist Collectors and Fume Collectors
