Diagnostic Examinations in Agricultural Fruit and Vegetable Dryers

From Flir Systems Incorporated

For this exercise, we applied the methods of vibration diagnosis and infrared thermography to multi-belt dryer technologies that are capable of drying horticultural products. Under service operation of the dryer we have kept track of the conditions of the electro-motors and vents and the insulation condition of the whole dryer. With the Preventive Maintenance system, dryer failures can be detected and planned at a lower cost. As a result, the heat energy wasted in the drying procedure can be easily indicated and detected with infrared thermography method. The results can also be used to determine the parameters for optimal drying procedures. We have been examining vegetable drying devices using a variety of diagnostics for many years. In cases with the Binder type vegetable drying devices, we hoped to learn the following diagnostic information: The safety of the dryers during operation: The continuous status monitoring of the Binder HG type apron dryer is essential to ensure it is capable of continuous operation in the drying season, because the machine dries 24,000-55,000 kg of raw vegetable per day, depending on the breed.
