Moisture in Crumb Rubber

From Process Sensors Corp.

Optimizing moisture levels not only increases yield, but also the efficiency of the drying operation. The first stage of this process involves the polymerization of butadiene and styrene polymers to form a milky white emulsion termed Latex. The reaction is stopped before completion, owing to a fall off in the reaction rate. Quality of product and monomers are recovered from the latex stream prior to it being stored. In the second stage, latex is pumped to coagulation vessels where brine and diluted sulfuric acid are added. This causes the emulsions to break, releasing the styrene-butadiene copolymer. The crumb and brine acid slurry is separated by screens, and the crumb is pressed before being dried on a belt dryer. The dried product is baled and weighed.

Products & Services
Pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) and contact adhesives adhere to most surfaces with very slight pressure. They are available in solvent and latex or water-based forms. Search by Specification | Learn more about Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) and Contact Adhesives
Foams and foam materials are industrial products made from low density elastomers, plastics, and other materials with various structures and porosities. Search by Specification | Learn more about Foams and Foam Materials
Rubber adhesives and sealants are highly flexible, natural or synthetic materials that are used to join components or fill gaps between seams or on surfaces. Search by Specification | Learn more about Rubber Adhesives and Sealants
Thermoplastics and thermoplastic materials soften when heated and harden when cooled. They can withstand many heating and cooling cycles and are often suitable for recycling. Search by Specification | Learn more about Thermoplastics and Thermoplastic Materials
Monomers, intermediates, and base polymers are starting raw materials or binders for the production of compounded resins, plastics and elastomers, paints or organic coatings, adhesives and sealants; Learn more about Monomers, Intermediates and Base Polymers
