Green Liquor Heating - Pulp and Paper
From ProSonix Corporation

Kraft Pulp mills utilize a closed loop chemical process to produce pulp from wood chips. One component of the process is green liquor, a combination of recovery boiler smelt, and weak wash (dilute white liquor). Clarified to remove some insoluble materials, and sent to be regenerated into white liquor in a process known as Recausticizing. Flows range from 400-1500 gpm, although they are typically 700-1200 gpm. Recausticizing is a chemical process in which the green liquor is mixed and reacts with lime in two stages. The first stage reaction occurs in an agitated vessel known as a Slaker at high temperatures (180-215°F) and violent agitation. The remaining chemical reaction occurs in a series of agitated tanks known as Causticizers where the reactants are held for about 1.5 hours. Good temperature control is important to achieve high efficiency in the reaction. Green liquor is often heated by heat exchangers or by sparging steam into the Slaker.

Products & Services
Catalysts and initiators start or promote chemical reactions used to produce organic chemicals, polymers and adhesives.
Wood and wood products are materials derived from trees and include timber, lumber, veneer, wood pulp, wood flour, pellets and chips.
Evaporators are systems consisting of a heat exchanger or bath, valves, manifolds and temperature controls for conversion of a product (e.g., liquefied gas) from a liquid to a gaseous state.
Neutralization equipment promotes the chemical process that produces a solution that is neither acidic nor alkaline.
Process reactors are containers that are used to contain reactions.
