Mil-F-14072 Finishes for Ground Based Electronic Equipment

This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1.1 Scope. This specification covers requirements for finishes necessary to protect ground electronic equipment from the deteriorating effects of climatic conditions encountered in military use. Selection of materials, processes and finishes shall be in accordance with this document and all federal, state and local environmental regulations 1.2. Conditions of applicability. When it is felt that the finish requirements of this document may comprise the performance of the equipment the designer shall consider other possibilities, such as the use of compatible, inherently corrosion-resistant materials. For example, heat dissipation requirements of equipment may require special consideration to provide for optimum thermal conductivity. In such a case, the use of castings, welded pieces, clad metals, etc., which reduce the number of interfaces, may be satisfactory. A prudent choice of materials in the design stage will result in fewer finishing, corrosion, and environmental problems.
