Mil-P-27418 Plating, Soft Nickel (Electrodeposited, Sulfamate Bath)

From Queens Plating Co., Inc.

Plating, Soft Nickel (Electrodeposited, Sulfamate Bath) 1.1 Scope. This specification covers the processes and requirements for soft nickel plating. 2. Applicable Documents. Not Applicable 3. Requirements 3.1 Materials. The materials used shall be such as to produce coatings which meet the requirements of this specification. 3.2 Workmanship 3.2.1 Basis metal. The basis metal shall be free from visible defects that will be detrimental to the performance of the plating. Articles to be plated shall be stress relieved, cleaned, etched, pickled, plated, and annealed as required to produce plating as specified herein. 3.2.2 Plating. The nickel plating shall be, smooth, columnar crystalline (before annealing – 6.3), adherent, and free from visible blisters, pits, nodules, porosity, indications of burning and excessive edge buildup, and other defects. Slight discoloration resulting from annealing, shall not be the cause of rejection. All details of workmanship shall conform to the best practice for high-quality plating.

Products & Services
Plating services apply a thin coating of metal to the surface of a substrate in order to improve conductivity, prevent rust and corrosion, and facilitate soldering. There are two basic plating techniques: electroplating and electroless plating. Search by Specification | Learn more about Plating Services
Plating equipment and anodizing equipment is used to apply a finish to a products to increase its durability or to resist corrosion. Learn more about Plating and Anodizing Equipment
Plating supplies and anodizing supplies consist of metal salts, anodes and other consumables for the electro-deposition or electroplating of metal films or anodized layer formation. Learn more about Plating Supplies and Anodizing Supplies
Anodizing is a process for finishing aluminum alloys that employs electrolytic oxidation of the aluminum surface to produce a protective oxide coating. Search by Specification | Learn more about Anodizing Services
Electrical contacts and contact materials are soft, high-conductivity, oxidation- resistant materials that are used in circuit breakers, relays, switches, and electrical discharge machining (EDM) applications.  They often have a second phase in order to provide anti-welding and/or arc resistance.
