Machining of DIAB Core Materials

There are a number of ways to machine DIAB core materials. This bulletin covers the most commonly used methods.

* Sawing
* Cutting
* Horizontal sawing
* Sanding
* Router Cutting (Milling)
* Turning
* Drilling

It is in no way a complete set of instructions for machining Divinycell and Klegecell. The intention of this bulletin is to give guidance based on our internal experiences. The contents will cover the basic parameters and principles of machining DIAB PVC foams. We strongly recommend that trials be performed prior to choosing a final setup. Maintaining machinery and tools is very important to ensuring a good cut.

DIAB foams is a fairly easily machined material but the low thermal conductivity and other plastic properties can be a source of trouble. If in doubt concerning machining, please contact DIAB Technical Services for further advice.
