Fail-Safe Sensors SIMATIC FS: Savings Potential through Type 2 Safety Light Curtains
From globalspec.com
The segment of fail-safe sensors includes flexibly usable protective devices such as laser scanners, light curtains, photo sensors and connecting blocks. These devices have been demonstrating their industrial suitability for many years. Now, this segment is being expanded by a new series of light curtains with additional saving potentials. Light curtains and light grids are active, opto-electronic protective devices that reliably and securely protect persons at machines with regard to finger/hand guard, access protection as well as horizontal danger zone safeguarding. To improve operating results, operators of plants are constantly on the lookout for more saving potentials with which the production can be optimized and the costs be lowered further. The increasing competition makes it essential for customer-specific machines and systems to be implemented as quickly and as economically as possible. At the same time, the safety of the user must be ensured.

Products & Services
Light curtain controllers send stop signals to machines that are guarded by light curtains, photoelectric transmitters that project an array of synchronized, parallel infrared light beams to a receiver.
Light curtains are photoelectric transmitters that project an array of synchronized, parallel infrared light beams to a receiver unit. When an opaque object interrupts one or more beams, the light curtain controller sends a stop signal to the guarded machine. Light curtains are used as personal safety devices around hazardous machinery or for permiter guarding.
Machine safeguarding, presence sensing devices control machine operations and protect personnel by detecting the presence of objects that could interfere with or be harmed by machinery.
Two hand safety modules help prevent injury to machine operators by keeping their limbs away from dangerous machine movement.
Perimeter guards are guardrails and security fences as well as safety devices that produce sound waves when a given perimeter is breached.
