The transport of heavy loads has fascinated mankind since the building of the pyramids. Today, modern cranes quickly and conveniently take over these tasks -just like at the Axel Springer Publishing House, where the creative utilization of existing capacities resulted in a cost-effective conversion of the crane equipment. With the intaglio printing facilities in Ahrensburgand Darmstadt, this division of the Axel Springer Publishing House is among the three largest in Europe. On a daily basis, press runs reach into the millions. In Ahrensburgalone, 8.5 million copies of Axel Springer's own magazines and 3.4 million other printed papers run "off the roll"per week. To be prepared for the future, investments in new technology have to be made consistently. When the offset printing machine park in Ahrensburghad to be refreshed with new, more efficient machines, the publishing house was initially confronted with a problem.
