Dryer Eliminates Rework in Finish Operations

From Parker Hannifin Filtration and Separation Div. / Balston Products

Installation of a compressed air dryer has helped eliminate rejects and rework caused by water contamination in compressed air lines used to drive electrostatic coating sprayers at the GBC Office Products plant in Booneville, Miss. In the past, moisture in the air lines left spots that kept two full-time people busy - reworking wood and metal bulletin and marker board subassemblies by hand. Company mangers evaluated a number of different drying methods and selected a membrane air dryer, which has no moving parts to maintain and doesn't use electrical power. "The new membrane dryer provides the driest air that I have ever seen," said Bert Brown, maintenance manager for the Booneville plant. "We have completely eliminated rework due to moisture contamination, making it possible to re-deploy two people to more productive jobs. The new filters have also cut the cost of repairing spray guns down to virtually zero."
