Hyde has the capacity to manufacture it products complete, within one facility. Hyde stocks a variety of steels. High carbon cutlery steel; high carbon chrome vanadium steel (1075, 1095); 4130 steel; tool steels (A2, D2); high speed steels (M1, M2, M4); stainless steels (440A, 440-C, 410, 420); as well as others.

The press department has a large variety of mechanical and hydraulic presses ranging in capacities of up to 200 tons. Some presses are capable of running in an automated continuous run process with stock feeders and stock straighteners aiding our high speed blanking. Laser capabilities allow an infinite variety of shapes.

Hyde's heat treating department is one of the best equipped in the business. Our hardening furnaces (box, vacuum, salt bath), and tempering furnaces (steam and retort) can handle blades up to 30" diameter or 72" long rectangular blades from many of the steels we stock. The addition of robot controlled equipment has enabled Hyde to be a fore-runner in the heat treating aspect of the industry.

Whether your product requires an edge developed by a craftsman's hand or the precision of a machine ground edge, Hyde has the best of both worlds. We have hand grinders with decades of experience and our machine grinding department is manned by skilled employees with a multitude of gauging and testing equipment to back them up. We have outside diameter grinders, inside diameter grinders, honing machines, and rotary surface grinders with capacities and tolerances as follows:

Diameters: 5/8" to 24" with a standard tolerance of plus .015" minus .000" and a minimum tolerance of plus or minus .001".
Centerholes: Round centerholes have a standard tolerance of plus .002" minus .000" and a minimum tolerance of plus .001" minus .000".
Thickness: From .007" to .500" with a standard tolerance of plus or minus .001" and a minimum tolerance of plus or minus .00025" depending on diameter and thickness.
Horizontal surface grinders with 10" x 96" capacity will handle most rectangular knife needs. Maximum blade length is 72" with a thickness limit of 1/2". Add our machinery capable of bevel grinding and you can see that Hyde is well equipped to meet your needs.

Laser Cutting Services
Our laser cutting equipment will handle a full 4' x 8' sheet of steel. Maximum thickness on mild steel is 1/4".

Circular Blade Product Capabilities
Diameters: Up to 24".
Thickness: Minimum .007" Maximum .500"
Centerholes: Any configuration of centerhole within reasonable wall thickness. (round holes may be ground to a close tolerance.)
Bevels: Up to 12 degree single (one side) or 24 degree inclusive (both sides) are standard but steeper bevels are attainable with some limitations based on diameters.
Steels: High carbon tool steels (max, RHC 60), stainless steels (max, RHC 56), high speed steels (max, RHC 62), and high alloy steels (max. RHC 64) are stocked at our plant.
Edges: Honed edges, square edges (not beveled), or beveled blades with land left on edge are common.
Micro Finishes: 32 micro is standard, however, micro finishes as low as 6 are attainable, requiring special processing.
Flatness: up to 8": .005" if not under .040" thick.
8" to 12": .008" if not under .070" thick.
12" to 24": .010" if not under .125" thick.
(Blade held in vertical position against straight edge and deviation measured with feeler gauges.)
Runout: Side runout or wobble, using flanges 1/3 diameter of blade.
Up to 24": .0005" per inch of diameter; minimum of .004"*. High speed blades with wide bevels are exceptions.
Peripheral runout or hop if blade not honed: .003" T.I.R.
Rectangular and other Shapes
Length: Up to 72"; Thickness: Up to .500; Width: Up to 4"

*Minimum tolerances are our limits under standard conditions. Conditions out of ordinary (type of steel, RHC, diameter, thickness, etc.), may allow tighter limits.
