Versatile Use of RDCP-600 Gives Valuable Information in Baltic Sea Project

During a two week expedition (September 2004) with R/V Aranda to the Gulf of Finland (Fig. 2) a RDCP-600 was used, in parallel with many other instruments, to measure currents in the water column and to collect simultaneous information about oxygen (with optode) and turbidity variations close to the sea floor. This work was done within the frames of a three year European EU-INTAS project entitled 'The Importance of Sediments for the Water Quality of the Gulf of Finland”. In this project long-term (8-10 months) measurement of currents, oxygen and turbidity (done with RCM9 instruments see e.g. Aanderaa news letter Sensors & Systems #21) are combined with targeted studies of the sea floor carried out during shorter expeditions like this one.
