Infrared Thermometer: What is an Infrared Thermometer? An infrared thermometer is a non-contact temperature measurement device. Infrared Thermometers detect the infrared energy emitted by all materials -- at temperatures above absolute zero, (0°Kelvin)-- and converts the energy factor into a temperature reading.

When selecting noncontact temperature measurement instruments, it is necessary to take into account not only the target and its emissivity, but also the surroundings and the invtervening atmosphere.
