From Digital Signal Processing Using MATLAB and Wavelets
MATLAB is a programming environment which has gained popularity due to its ease of use. The purpose of this chapter is not to teach MATLAB programming, but it is intended to provide a quick reference to MATLAB. It is easy to understand if you already know a programming language; if you do not, the following examples should help. Whether you are an experienced programmer or a beginner, the best thing to do is try the examples on your computer. MATLAB provides an interactive environment that makes this easy: you type a command, and it executes it. If there is a problem, it will let you know, and you can try again. If a command works well, you can copy and paste it into a file, creating a complex program one step at a time. More >>

Digital signal processor (DSP) computer boards are central to the implementation of high-performance industrial systems. They collect and process digital data from many sources, and distribute the results to other elements of the system.
Digital signal processors (DSPs) are specialized microprocessors designed specifically for digital signal processing, usually in real-time. DSPs can also be used to perform general-purpose computations, but are not optimized for this function.
Microprocessor chips (MPU) are silicon devices that serve as the central processing unit (CPU) in computers. They contain thousands of electronic components and use a collection of machine instructions to perform mathematical operations and move data from one memory location to another.

Device programmers are used to program nonvolatile memory such as microcontrollers, erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM), programmable logic devices (PLDs), programmable array logic (PAL), generic array logic (GAL) and other electrically programmable devices.
