Recording Current Variability - LOCO Project Benefits from the Evolution of the Current Meter

From Aanderaa Data Instruments, Inc.

To aid the study of the world's ocean circulation and climatic variability, the LOCO (Long-term Ocean Climate Observations) project will see a whole series of Recording (Doppler) Current Meters [RCMs] deployed in four key areas of ocean circulation in the world: The Canary Basin, the Irminger Sea/Labrador Sea, the Mozambique Channel, and in East Indonesia. During the next five years 30 RCMs will measure sea temperature, current direction and current speed every 15th minute, day and night. After 18 months the instruments will be raised and information from their Data Storage Unites collected, before they will once again be moored to the seabed.
