From Dicronite Dry Lubrication
Situation:
Combat helicopters are vulnerable to sudden loss of transmission lubrication due to enemy fire. Increasing the transmission life after sudden lubrication loss increases the probability of finding a suitable emergency landing site, which directly saves lives.
Testing:
* The performance of standard bearings and Dicronite dry lubricated standard bearings was compared under sudden lubrication loss conditions
* Bearings: M-50 steel roller bearings
* Load: 114Kgf (250lbf) radial load
* Speed: 10,000 rpm, inner race
* Lubricant: MIL-PRF-7808 lubricant at 65°C (175°F)

Bearings permit smooth low-friction rotary or linear movement between two surfaces. Bearings employ either a sliding or rolling action. In both cases, there is a strong attempt to provide enough...
Cylindrical roller bearings have high radial capacity. Their low friction permits operation at high speed, and thrust loads of some magnitude can be carried through the flange-roller end contacts.
13.1 A General Review The investigations reported in this diagnosis concern the effect of the use of deteriorated lubricant on bearing life. The diagnosis of the premature failure of the...
PLAIN BEARINGS Introduction On the following pages are given data and procedures for designing full-film or hydrody-namically lubricated bearings of the journal and thrust types. However, before...
The function of bearings is to keep the shaft or rotor properly aligned with the stationary parts under axial and radial loads. Bearings that provide radial positioning to rotors are known as line or...
