Pin Type
   Locating and Fixturing Pins
   Your choices are...
Bullet-nose Dowel       Bullet-nose dowels are precision locating pins with a long tapered nose. They are often used with a mating bushing, or liner. Bullet-nose dowels are similar to bullet-nose pins, but have a smaller locating shoulder.
Bullet-nose Pin       Bullet-nose pins are used to align two pieces of a fixture. They have a short, round, or diamond tip. Bullet-nose pins are used with a mating bushing or liner that provides a precision fit with the nose of the pin. Often, round and diamond bullet-nose pins are used together. In these cases, the round pin is the primary, 2-axis locator and the diamond pin is the secondary, 1-axis locator.
Clamping Pin       Clamping pins are used to clamp materials of varying thicknesses. They are adjusted with a collar, or positioned with a bushing and brazing.
Cone Locator Pin       Cone locator pins are similar to round and diamond locating pins, but have cone-shaped tips. They are used with a mating bushing, or liner, for medium-accuracy location. Cone locator pins can compensate for a great deal of misalignment.
Diamond Locating Pin       Diamond locating pins have a 4-flat, diamond shaped tip. They are used to accurately locate a part, often in conjunction with a round pin. Diamond pins have either a small or large locating shoulder.
Drift Pin       Drift pins are tapered pins. They are used to align holes in members that will be bolted together.
Floating Locating Pin       Floating locating pins are very similar in function to diamond pins. They are used to provide precise, 1-axis location while floating in the perpendicular axis. Typically, a floating locating pin is used in conjunction with a round pin to locate in 2 axes.
Indexing / Pop Pin       Indexing pins or pop are spring-loaded devices. They usually have a knob or handle for gripping, and for ease of installation and removal. Indexing pins may be threaded or nonthreaded.
L-Pin       L-pins are removable alignment or locating pins with an L-shaped handle at one end.
Powered       Powered pins are devices that are mechanically actuated from an electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic source of energy.
Quick Release Pin       Ball-lock pins are quick-release pins with spring-loaded steel balls for a positive lock. A button or other actuating device unlocks the balls for easy removal.
Round Locating Pin       Round locating pins have a round, tapered tip. They are used to accurately locate a part, often in conjunction with a diamond pin.  Round pins have either a small or large locating shoulder.
T-Pin       T-pins are removable alignment or locating pins with a T-shaped handle at one end.

Material
   Material
   Your choices are...
Aluminum       Aluminum is a bluish, silver-white, malleable, ductile, light, trivalent, metallic element with good electrical and thermal conductivity, high reflectivity, and resistance to oxidation.
Brass       Brass provides good strength, excellent high temperature ductility and reasonable cold ductility, good electrical conductivity, excellent corrosion-resistance, good bearing properties, and low magnetic permeability.
Plastic       Plastics are organic, synthetic, or processed materials that are mostly thermoplastic or thermosetting polymers of high molecular weight. They can be made into objects, films, or filaments.
Steel, Hardened and Ground       Pins are made of hardened and ground steel. Steel may be hardened in a number of ways. These include a variety of quenching techniques in oil and water, being passed through induction chambers, etc. Cooling steel quickly during processing freezes, traps, and packs the carbon atoms inside the shrunken iron crystals, thereby producing a very hard and brittle metal. Although this material is very hard, it cannot absorb much shock or impact without breaking.
Steel, Unhardened       Pins are made of unhardened steel. By definition, steel is a commercial iron that contains carbon in any amount up to about 1.7 % as an essential alloying constituent. Steel is malleable when under suitable conditions, and is distinguished from cast iron by both its malleability and lower carbon content.
Stainless Steel       Stainless steel is chemical-resistant and corrosion-resistant, and can have relatively high pressure ratings.
Titanium       Titanium is a silver-white metal that is used primarily to make light, strong alloys with good temperature and corrosion resistance. Titanium alloys weigh approximately 44% less than stainless or alloy steels.
Wood       Pins are made from wood, typically a hard wood such as white birch.
