   Sound Level Meter       Unit for measuring Sound Pressure Level (SPL) and different weightings such as A-weighted SPL, C-weighted SPL, Sound Exposure Level, etc. 
   Noise Dosimeter       Specific measurement capability for defined industrial safety criteria. Typical measure is sound exposure for an 8-hour period; other criteria may apply. 
   Sound Level / Noise Dosimeter Combination       One unit or meter with both capabilities.

   Frequency Range:       Frequency Range is the range of frequencies for which the meter maintains a constant sensitivity within defined boundaries. Functionally, this is the operational range of the meter.

Sound Level Measurement Modes

   Flat (Unweighted) SPL       Straight physical quantity with no weighting. 
   A-Weighted SPL (LA)       A-weighting is a frequency domain weighting based on human hearing response; filters out low frequency sound to approximate the response of the human ear. 
   C-Weighted SPL (LC)       C-Weighting filters less low frequency sound than A-weighting; closer representation of acoustic energy across all frequencies. 
   A-Weighted Sound Exposure Level (LAE)       Defined for short or one-time sounds as the equivalent 1-second level. 
   Equivalent Continuous SPL (Leq)       Noise Level of a continuous steady sound whose time-averaged power equals that of the fluctuating noise under measurement. 
   Percentile SPL (LX)       Percentage of time during a given measurement period that the instantaneous measurement exceeds a given value. May independently show predefined levels such as L5 or L95, etc. 
   Other       Specialized weighting modes include B, D, and G.

Noise Dosimeter Measurement
   Threshold Level Range:       Threshold Level is set for the beginning of meaningful measurement; discounts irrelevant low-level noise.

   Criterion Level Range:       Criterion is the standard noise level to which the exposure or dose will be compared.
