Remote Control Technology's original product line, "RIC" was developed when the company was known as TRC Systems. The product was the innovation of an irrigation contractor who recognized the need for a more efficient method of servicing automatic sprinkler systems. A portable wireless remote device was introduced shortly before his death in 1982. TRC Systems changed its name to Remote Control Technology, Inc. in 1988. Remote Control Technology operates out of Kirkland, Washington.
In 2005 Remote Control Technology sold its irrigation division to TRC Irrigation Remotes, and now focuses on industrial and agricultural applications.
