About

POSITAL - FRABAThe FRABA Group, as one of the leading manufacturers of high technology sensor and safety systems for industrial automation, is committed to excellence in quality and customer service. Headquartered in Cologne, Germany, the first US subsidiary, FRABA Inc., began operations in 2000 and is located in Hamilton, NJ. Additionally in 2009, FRABA Pte opened in Singapore, thereby providing total global support to global customers.

With the POSITAL brand product range, FRABA strengthens their leadership in absolute encoders, which they have developed for over thirty years. The POSITAL encoders utilize optical and magnetic technology, and integrated intelligence while combining high performance, high quality, and low cost.

InterfacesCurrently POSITAL absolute rotary encoders support communication using the following standard interfaces:

In addition to its encoder line, POSITAL also manufactures high accuracy and low-cost inclinometers, to allow for installation in any application. Their robust nature allows for ease of installation and worry free operation in the harshest of environments with resolutions up to 0.001° and wide ±80° and full 360° ranges in single and dual axis models.

3020 StreichholzUnder the VITECTOR brand, FRABA manufactures a line of protection devices. More specifically, safety edges protect people and objects against collisions with automatically operated devices like commercial doors, gates, machines, and robots. These devices are actuated by conventional pneumatic operation, or the safe VITECTOR innovative optoelectronic solution.

i_039Finally, the FRABA brand INTACTON manufactures contact-less encoders for length and velocity. These sensors are used in any application where contact with the measured material is undesirable. The OPTIPACT is such a contact-less encoder that uniquely allows for measurement in two-axes and is designed for most applications. The COVIDIS is a high-end sensor with an error of less than 0.05% suited for the most demanding application.

How Does an Optical Encoder Work? (Encoders and Resolvers) The Optical Encoders typically consist of a rotating and a stationary member. The rotor is usually a metal, glass, or a plastic disc mounted on the encoder shaft. The disc has some kind of optical... (View Full Article)
Pros and Cons of Absolute vs. Incremental Rotary Encoders (Encoders and Resolvers) An incremental encoder simply generates pulses proportional to the position. The principle of the incremental measuring system is the scanning of a line pattern on a glass or plastic disc (see Image... (View Full Article)
