The Bernstein SMART Safety System is a safety system that uses redundant OSSD safety outputs, with up to 32 sensors running in a cascading order. Any interruption in this sequence, such as a door opening or a fault, prevents the final OSSD signals from reaching the last position, preventing the machine from starting.
The system also offers detailed diagnostic information through Daisy Chain Diagnostics (DCD), which can be accessed via I/O Link or NFC technology on Android devices.
Both diagnostic systems operate independently of the safety outputs.
The SMART Safety System has a safety rating of up to PLe, Cat.4 / SIL CL 3, even when multiple switches are used in series. It also features "Fault Tolerant Outputs" to prevent unnecessary machine shutdowns.
If both OSSD safety outputs are lost, the machine will shut down immediately. If only one output is lost, the sensor will indicate the condition with a flashing code and transmit the information via DCD.
The sensors are designed for series use and feature an M12 connection system for convenience.
