WMATA is installing new digital display panels in Metro stations throughout its system. The displays will be used for purposes including advertising and other public information. A total of 176 LCD/LED digital display panels are intended to be installed. The LCD displays are 55” and the LED display vary in size and are housed in a digital display box. The digital display system includes multiple displays at each station with equipment supporting its operation located in the Communication Rooms. The displays require power and communication to be routed to them.
The project involves creating a biddable package with all details required for contractor installation of conduit, cable etc. This included conduit plans, conduit schedules, cable plans, cable schedules, panelboard schedules and many supporting detailed installation drawings. Site surveys and WMATA input was essential to the conduit and cable design. Along with the design, WMATA requested that existing power panels be metered to ensure loading condition and capacity for new installations.

The project involves designing the power and communication supply to all system components at the WMATA stations. Electrical and communications design services as well as conduit sizing and routing designs were completed by GL Engineers. A detailed PE stamped-design drawing package, scope of work, cost estimate & bid package along with existing power metering surveys were included in the final deliverables. GL worked with a Prime Consultant but was given complete design and responsibility for the stations assigned. GL completed all scope of work responsibilities for multiple WMATA stations.
