Fire and Thermal Protection Coatings
Pyrogenics FIREX™
The Pyrogenics Group is a technological leader in the realm of specialized fire and thermal protection coatings. Pyrogenics FIREX™ coatings have provided fire and thermal protection for personnel and property for over 30 years.
FIREX™ coatings are used to "buy time" ... critical time... for the containment and suppression of thermal threats to personnel, equipment, and structures. Our intumescent or ablative FIREX™ coatings, absorb and reject thermal energy in a controlled and predictable manner and are primarily intended for use in high risk environments such as the oil, gas, petrochemical and power generation industries.
Our products have a proven track record and are optimized to provide the highest level of performance in rapid temperature rise fires, retaining strength, with excellent adhesion even in the harshest of environments such as cellulosic type fires and hydrocarbon fires. These fires are caused by burning hydrocarbon fuels, such as petrol, diesel, petro chemicals and gases. These types of fires are characterized by a rapid and massive temperature increase as the fuel ignites that cause a high level of pressure (blast erosion), that typically destroys traditional thin-film intumescent coatings as well other typical structural steelwork fire protection.
FIREX™ coatings are used in numerous military and defense applications, including ships, tanks, military vehicles, as well as markets for agriculture, chemical, infrastructure such as buildings, airports, bridges, mining, oil and gas, power, pulp and paper, and waste industries.
In addition, we have teamed with the U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) to provide predictive modeling of applications based on our FIREX™ products which provide excellent test correlations. We can model the expected behavior of your application with our products and generate results to help guide your material selection process.

The Pyrogenics Group is the technological leader in the production of engineered carbon based products for key industries requiring innovative material solutions.
These high-purity products offer unique thermal and physical properties that provide customer benefits in the form of extremely rapid thermal heat transport or heat spreading.
The Pyrogenics Group had its origins in the Space Age Materials Corporation (SAMCO), a research and development organization that focused on high-temperature materials and coatings for use in military and aerospace applications.
The production facility of The Pyrogenics Group is in Easton, Pennsylvania, a 90 minute drive from Philadelphia and New York City. The multi-building complex houses a variety of high temperature equipment including two-story production furnaces capable of producing Pyroid® pyrolytic graphite material from 0.001 to 1 inches thick (0.0025 to 2.5 cm), lengths over 48" long (120 cm), and widths up to 24" wide (60 cm). Additional medium-sized furnaces and small pilot furnaces are available for lower production volumes or small scale prototype work.
Our furnaces are used on a regular basis for Chemical Vapor Infiltration (CVI) of pyrolytic carbon into carbon-carbon composites and special pyrolytic carbon coatings, and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), on graphite or similar substrates.
We are supported by a ISO certified, full-service, analytical lab for product certification and our CNC machine shop is fully equipped to finish every order to the customer's demanding tolerance specifications and quality requirements.
