Every facility generates waste. Some of those wastes may be hazardous and need to be managed properly to prevent harm to people and the environment.
There are also certain types of wastes that contain hazardous materials but can be recycled. Because these wastes are generated by many different types of businesses, they’re known as “universal wastes.” These wastes can be recycled – saving money over the cost of hazardous waste handling and protecting the environment.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Universal Waste Rule applies to the following five types of waste categories:
- Batteries
- Pesticides
- Mercury-containing equipment
- Mercury lamps
- Aerosol cans
