Even Without Power You can count on it… Multi-Turn Rotary Position Sensors
Many applications require rotation counters that can measure angles greater than 360º. However the low-cost 10-turn potentiometers most design engineers are familiar with can’t always meet user requirements for resolution and reliability.
As an alternative, optical absolute encoders are too expensive for many applications. These solutions require a continuous power supply or they will lose count when power is restored. Also, geared technology/rotation counters are subject to signi?cant wear.  read more...

Robust Angle Sensors
Southborough, MA - Novotechnik U.S. introduces the RSB 3600 Series of absolute single-turn angle sensors. The sensors are non-contact sensors with galvanized steel housing and stainless steel shaft with up to 100 N working shaft load for HD version. They are sealed up to IP 69K—depending on version.

RSB 3600 Series sensors are EGMR (enhanced giant magnetic resistance) devices that retain their angular position even when power is removed. The sensors retain that angle information for years without power. So there is no need for batteries. Operating speed is up to 12,000 RPM.

Key specifications for RSB 3600 Series include 36.5 mm profile, count to 16 turns, angular position 0 to 360°, 12-bit resolution, repeatability of <0.1°, and typical independent linearity of ≤ ±0.8% F.S. Single, partially redundant and fully redundant two channel versions are offered. Output options are: 0.25 to 4.75 V, 0.5 to 4.5 V, 0.1 to 10 V, 4 to 20 mA, and 10 to 90% of power supply.

The RSB 3600 Series is available in connector or cable versions as well as 5 and 24 V supply models. RSB 3600 Series versions have a MTTF of more than 105 years. All models have operating temperature range of -30 to +85°C and 0 to 98% RH, non-condensing. RSB 3600 Series sensors withstand shock to 50 g and vibration to 20 g.

Novotechnik - the technique of being better
Novotechnik introduced the potentiometer into the general machine engineering sector in the 1950s. Since then, the company developed technology used in position transducers and rotary and linear potentiometers that set the standard with outstanding linearity and reliability over an extended operating life.

Today, Novotechnik has developed new technologies that are raising the standard, bringing a new level of linearity and reliability to non-contacting applications.

An international sensor and transducer manufacturing company, Novotechnik's US operations are headquartered in Southborough, Massachusetts while the Automotive Division is located in Livonia, Michigan. Contelec and Novotechnik are divisions of the Siedle Group.

The company develops and produces a wide variety of rotary, and linear position sensors using contacting and non-contacting technologies for a wide range of motion control applications in the automotive, machine engineering, plastics, medical equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic, medical products and control industries.

Novotechnik is world wide certified as one of the first companies to achieve the ISO/TS 16949 certification. This complies with the requirements of the automobile industry - VDA 6.1, QS9000, EAQF, AVSQ - regarding quality management systems.
