Construction & Operation: The BW-BCM thermal protector features a robust construction where the movable contact is welded to a bimetal disc, connected to an iron bracket. The stationary silver contact is molded with the base and riveted securely to the iron bracket. Current flows through the bimetal disc’s movable contact to the stationary contact, forming a closed loop.
When the device reaches its rated temperature, the bimetal disc rapidly deforms, breaking the circuit to prevent overheating. As the device cools, the disc returns to its original position, closing the contacts and restoring the circuit.
