Vibration reduction is vital for various motion control applications, such as labs where it prevents spills on costly equipment or in high-precision microscopy tasks, where even small vibrations can cause image blurriness and delay movements. In this article, we discuss general vibration reduction methods which can be implemented on most standard motion controllers by simply adjusting the trajectory. We go through a practical example applying a zero-vibration algorithm on a linear motor stage by characterizing the vibration, adjusting the trajectory to eliminate it, and measuring the performance increase. We also investigate how conventional trajectory modifications like decreasing acceleration compare for reducing vibrations.
