   A2LA       A2LA is the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation. A2LA accreditation is defined as formal recognition of an organization's technical competency to perform specific tests, types of tests, or calibrations. The general requirements for laboratory accreditation are contained in ISO / IEC 17025. This standard contains quality system requirements and technical requirements that the laboratories must meet. Laboratory accreditation requirements, however, go beyond just ISO / IEC 17025. 
   AAMI       Standards of the Association For the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). 
   ANSI       The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) functions as the administrator and coordinator of the United States' private-sector, voluntary standardization system - including nearly 1000 company, organization, government agency, institutional, and international members. Standards information, conformity assessment, a reference library, and other services are available here. ANSI also accredits qualified organizations to develop standards. 
   ASME       American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards, ASME International formed CSTI (Codes and Standards Technology Institute) in November 2001 to ensure that ASME standards committees are provided with a continuing source of research in the technologies that they cover. CSTI provides the research and technology development needed to establish and maintain the technical relevance of codes and standards. 
   ASTM       ASTM stands for the American Society for Testing and Materials.  This organization establishes standards for protective equipment. ASTM-certified means the product complies with certain design specifications for safety. The laboratory participates in one or more of ASTM's Interlaboratory Crosscheck and Proficiency Testing Programs or has been assessed according to applicable ASTM standards or guides such as the E1580-93(2002) Standard Guide for Surveillance of Accredited Laboratories. Assessing bodies and not ASTM makes the actual conformity to ASTM standard guides.   
   CB Report       CB Report standards are a program administered by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for the international recognition of electrical equipment test results. 
   CCC (China)       CCC stands for China Compulsory Certification and requires manufacturers in 132 product categories to obtain the CCC mark before exporting to or selling in the Chinese market. The CCC mark became effective on May 1, 2002. The two previous systems (CCIB and CCEE or Great Wall) caused a great deal of inconvenience for enterprises dealing in both domestic and foreign trade by carrying different national quality standards. 
   CE Mark (Europe)       The CE mark is the official marking required by the European Community for all Electric- and Electronic equipment that will be sold, or put into service for the first time anywhere in the European community. 
   CISPR       CISPR's principal task is at the higher end of the frequency range. From 9 kHz upwards, they prepare standards that offer protection of radio reception from interference sources such as electrical appliances of all types, the electricity supply system, industrial, scientific and electro-medical, RF, broadcasting receivers (sound and TV) and IT equipment (ITE). 
   CNAL (China)       The China Accreditation Committee for Laboratories (CNAL) organization set Chinese standards for testing products such as home appliances, luminaries, power tools, power supplies, switches, and chargers. Laboratories can be accredited or accepted by CNAL. 
   CSA Mark
CSA Mark
 
     Products that bear a CSA Mark have been tested by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and meet applicable standards for safety and/or performance. These standards are written and administered by organizations such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and CSA International. CSA Marks may appear alone or with indicators. CSA Marks that appear alone are used with products certified primarily for the Canadian market, to the applicable Canadian standards. CSA Marks that appear with the indicators “C” and “US” or “NRTL/C” and are used on products certified for both the U.S. and Canadian markets, to the applicable U.S. and Canadian standards. 
   C-TICK (Australia & New Zealand)       The C-Tick is a certification trademark registered to ACA under the Trade Marks Act of 1995, and to RSM in New Zealand under Section 47 of the NZ Trade Marks Act. The mark must be used in accordance with its governing regulations and is therefore only issued to an Australian or New Zealand-based supplier. The label is expected to be durable and limited in its size, scale, and color according to the regulations. 
   FCC (US)       All commercial electronic devices (unintentional radio-frequency radiators) destined for sale in the United States that have clocks/oscillators, operate at a frequency of greater than 9 kHz, and uses digital techniques are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under Rules and Regulations, Title 47, Part 15 Subpart B. This includes almost every product that employs a microprocessor. An unintentional radiator, if not controlled through proper design of grounding and shielding, may result in high levels of energy being radiated or conducted from the equipment causing unwanted effects upon another device. Laboratories can be recognized or accepted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) organization of the U.S. government.  
   FDA       Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provides standards, protocols, and/or GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) for products, services, systems, and facilities. 
   Gost R (Russia)       The Gost R certification system was established in 2004 by the Russian Federation government to provide national standards and requirements for the accreditation of certification bodies of products or quality systems; and testing and calibrating laboratories. 
   GS Mark       The GS Mark indicates that an electrical, mechanical, or electro-mechanical product was tested and complies with the minimum requirements of the German Equipment and Product Safety Act (a.k.a. GPSG).  The GS Mark (Geprüfte Sicherheit, meaning Safety Tested) is a licensed mark of the German government and may only be issued by an accredited product safety testing and certification agency. 
   IEC       International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) sets standards for electronic, electrical, or communications products. The International Electrotechnical Commission of Electrical Equipment (IECEE) provides conformity testing and certification of electrical or electronic products to IEC standards.  
   IEEE       Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) organization's standards or guidelines. 
   InMetro (Brazil)       The Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Normalização e Qualidade Industrial (InMetro) or the National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality, establishes measurement and quality standards in Brazil. Within Brazil, Inmetro is responsible for the activities of accreditation of certification bodies, inspection bodies, product performance verification bodies, training bodies, and for the activities of accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories. 
   ISO       ISO 7779 is concerned with acoustics, measurement of airborne noise emitted by information technology, and telecommunications equipment.  ISO 9000 is concerned with "quality management". This means what the organization does to enhance customer satisfaction by meeting customer and applicable regulatory requirements, and continually improving its performance in this regard.  ISO 13485 is concerned with medical devices, quality management systems, and requirements for regulatory purposes.  ISO 14000 is primarily concerned with "environmental management". This means what the organization does to minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities, and continually to improve its environmental performance.  ISO 17025 outlines the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. 
   ISTA       The International State Transit Association (ISTA) offers standards and performance testing relative to packaged-product distribution. Transport packaging tested in an ISTA certified laboratory, and tested according to one of the current ISTA procedures or projects, may be certified as Transit Tested. 
   JAB (Japan)       The Japanese Accreditation Board (JAB) for conformity assessment was established in 1993 by Keidanren (Japan Federation of Economic Organizations).  JAB developed and established third party conformity assessment schemes in Japan. JAB provides accreditation programs for testing and inspection bodies, certification bodies, training bodies, and medical laboratories. 
   KETI (Korea)       Korea Electric Testing Institute (KETI) organization for product testing.  KETI accreditation allows a laboratory to perform EMC and safety testing necessary to obtain the mandatory EK Mark certification required on products sold in Korea. 
   METI (Japan)       Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) organization for product testing. METI accreditation allows a laboratory to perform EMC and safety testing necessary to obtain the mandatory S Mark certification for products sold in Japan. The new standards have been in place since August 2004 for electrical appliances and materials, as defined under the DENAN Law, for products manufactured in or imported to Japan. 
   MIL-SPEC       MIL-SPEC is a procurement specification in the military series promulgated by one or more of the military agencies and used for the procurement of military supplies, equipment, or services. 
   NOM (Mexico)       NOM standards are the official Mexican product safety requirements.  Electrical, electronic, medical, wireless, and telecom products sold in Mexico must be tested to the national, mandatory NOM standards by an accredited Mexican laboratory. Testing may be conducted by a laboratory outside of Mexico if it has a laboratory-to-laboratory mutual recognition agreement with an accredited Mexican laboratory, or by an accredited lab in a country free-trade agreement with Mexico. 
   NRC       Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) standards or guidelines. 
   NRTL       A part of OSHA’s Directorate of Science, Technology, and Medicine. The Program recognizes private sector organizations as NRTLs, and recognition signifies that an organization has met the necessary qualifications specified in the regulations for the Program. The NRTL determines that specific equipment and materials ("products") meet consensus-based standards of safety to provide the assurance that these products are safe for use in the U.S. workplace. 
   NSF Standard Mark

     The National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Raad voor Accreditatie (RvA) for the following product certification programs: food equipment, drinking water additives, plastics and plumbing products, drinking water treatment systems, biohazard cabinetry, swimming pools, spas and hot tubs, bottled water and packaged ice, and water treatment units. Companies with NSF-certified products under an ANSI or RvA accredited program may use NSF Accreditation Marks in combination with the NSF Mark. 
   NVLAP       The National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) provides third-party accreditation to testing and calibration laboratories. 
   OEM Specific       The supplier offers standards related to specific manufacturers or OEMs. 
   PSE Mark (Japan)       The PSE Mark is a mandatory mark required on electrical appliances in Japan as authorized by the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law (DENAN). The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) administers the PSE Mark system. Products regulated are categorized as Specified Products (SPs) or Non-Specified Products (NPSs) according to the DENAN law. Specified Products (PSs) should meet compliance standards, and be certified by a METI accredited Conformity Assessment Body. Non-Specified Products (NPSs) should meet compliance standards, but do have to be certified by a METI accredited Conformity Assessment Body.  
   RoHS       Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) is a European Union (EU) directive that requires all manufacturers of electronic and electrical equipment sold in Europe to demonstrate that their products contain only minimal levels of the following hazardous substances: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated biphenyl and polybrominated diphenyl ether. RoHS became effective on July 1, 2006. 
   RvA       Raad voor Accreditatie (RvA) is the Dutch Accreditation Council. The RvA is the only accreditation body in the Netherlands that works in the public field. RvA provides accreditation programs for testing, calibration, inspection, and laboratories as well as registrars or certification bodies. 
   SCC       Standards Council of Canada (SCC) standards body.  
   S Mark       The S Mark is a European safety mark valid throughout the EU and a recognized symbol of safety since 1926.  The S Mark is a symbol of electrical safety, and evidence to authorities that an independent body has independently tested and certified a product’s compliance to applicable European safety requirements. 
   Telecordia / Bellcore       Telecordia / Bellcore provide mathematical reliability models for nearly all types of electrical and electronic components.  These reliability models are based on parameters of the components such as number of transistors, power dissipation, and environmental factors. 
   TÜV Rheinland (US, C, US & C)

     TÜV Rheinland/Berlin-Brandenberg provides third-party product testing, system assessment, and certification services. TÜV Rheinland of North America is a member of the TÜV Rheinland Group, and accredited by national organizations such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). Products that bear the TUVus Mark are certified for the U.S. market. Products that bear the cTUV Mark are certified for both the U.S. and Canadian markets. 
   UKAS (United Kingdom)       The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole national accreditation body recognized by government of the United Kingdom to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organizations or bodies that provide quality system registration, certification, testing, inspection, calibration and proficiency testing. 
   UL       Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is a non-profit organization that tests components, systems, and materials according to its published standards for safety. Products that receive UL approval bear a UL Mark. 
   USP       United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards. 
   VCCI (Japan)       The regulation of interference generated by computing devices is well established in Japan, but its implementation differs somewhat from that in other countries. Emissions control is performed on a voluntary basis, under the supervision of the Voluntary Control Council for Interference by Information Technology Equipment (VCCI).  The VCCI provides accreditation or acceptance by the VCCI for testing IT and telecommunications equipment to voluntary guidelines for emissions. The regulation of interference generated by computing devices is well established in Japan, but its implementation differs somewhat from that in other countries.    WEEE       The Waste Electrical and Electronics Equipment Regulations (WEEE Regulations) is a European Parliament Directive with the aim of encouraging reuse, recycling, and recovery of electrical and electronic equipment - and to improve the environmental impact and performance of these equipments. This directive sets the requirements and criteria for the collection, treatment, recycling, and recovery of these equipments. It makes producers responsible for financing these activities, and retailers and distributors must provide means for consumers to return used or obsolete equipments without charge.
