Supplier Capability | |||
Your choices are... | |||
PCB Design / Layout | Suppliers design printed circuit boards (PCBs) and provide layout services such as setting the footprints or pads where parts are soldered to the board. They also produce industry-standard Gerber files and provide fabrication and assembly drawings that depict board dimensions, hole sizes, board thickness, multi-layer stack-up and part placement. Some suppliers help upgrade, redesign, re-evaluate or modernize existing board layouts to increase performance and/or reduce manufacturing costs.
Prototype Quantities | Suppliers produce small quantities of prototypes prior to full-scale manufacturing. They may also offer rapid prototyping services.
Production Quantities | Suppliers have the equipment, staff, and materials needed for large-scale production runs.
Testing and Evaluation | Suppliers have implemented quality assurance or test procedures to ensure the quality of all manufactured or assembled boards. In some cases, suppliers also provide quality and testing documentation and/or testing services for other components and parts.
PCB Assembly | Suppliers have the staff, equipment, and materials to assemble components on boards.
Just-In-Time Capability | Suppliers offer just-in-time manufacturing capabilities that reduce or eliminate a customer's need to maintain quantities in inventory.
RF/Microwave Capability | The supplier has the ability to make boards for RF and microwave applications. Typically this had to do with the bonding type for multi-layer boards where FEP or fusion bonding is more commonly used.

PCB Type | |||
Your choices are... | |||
Single-Sided Boards | Suppliers design, produce or assemble single-sided boards or boards where components are mounted on only one side of the substrate.
Double-Sided Boards | Suppliers handle PCB assemblies with components on both sides of the substrate.
Multi-Layer Boards | Suppliers handle boards with three or more layers of printed circuits separated by laminate layers and bonded together with internal and external interconnections.
Flexible Boards | Suppliers handle flexible boards (as opposed to rigid boards).
Rigid-Flexible Boards | Rigid-flexible boards are rigid boards with flexible interconnects.
SMT Components | Surface mount technology (SMT) adds components to a PCB by soldering component leads or terminals to the top surface of the board. SMT components have a flat surface that is soldered to a flat pad on the face of the PCB. Typically, the PCB pad is coated with a paste-like formulation of solder and flux. With careful placement, SMT components on solder paste remain in position until elevated temperatures, usually from an infrared oven, melt the paste and solder the component leads to the PCB pads. Industry-standard pick-and-place equipment can mount SMT components quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively. SMT is a widely used alternative to mounting processes that insert pins or terminals through holes and solder leads into place on the opposite side of the board. Surface mounted components are usually smaller than equivalent through-hole leaded devices and, in some cases, are also less expensive.
THT Components | Through hole technology (THT) mounts components on a PCB by inserting component leads through holes in the board and then soldering the leads in place on the opposite side of the board.
