Wireless Digital Switches & Sensors: New Control Possibilities

Attendees of this presentation will learn of the latest developments in wireless control components for industrial applications. Specifically they will be introduced to the growing range of wireless digital switches and sensors designed for start/stop control, presence/position sensing, event detection/signaling and similar industrial automation functions. Product types and performance characteristics will be discussed, along with typical applications and case histories.

Wireless technology has been widely accepted throughout the industrial community. New and evolving standards, a wide range of devices, plus a large installed base, testify to their efficacy. However, while there is a large selection of devices available for processing continuously variable parameters such as flow, temperature, and pressure, there has been little available in the way of wireless devices for generating and receiving simple "on-off" signals. This situation is now changing with the availability of fully-certified, battery-less and battery-powered, digital contact and non-contact switches, sensors, and related accessories. Available, field-proven control components include mechanical limit switches, non-contact magnetic and inductive sensors, photo-optical sensors, and a wide range of switch types (miniature position, pull-wire, foot-operated, pushbutton, selector, toggle, etc.). This presentation explores product types, performance characteristics, and user benefits. It also examines technical developments that have enabled the realization of these devices, as well as typical applications and case histories.
