Overview

Being able to compare the performance specifications from the various suppliers of torque sensors should be a simple task. Unfortunately it is not. There are numerous methods available to compute and present the pertinent specifications, all based on the same data. Each method can provide disparate results and potentially mislead the user into a unit that may not be suitable for his application. In addition, inherent characteristics and features of any given torque sensor can have a significant influence on its actual realizable real-world performance, which does not show up in the stated basic performance specifications.

In this webinar, we will bring to light some of the specification computational variations, highlighting the strengths and shortcomings of each. We will also identify other important sensor characteristics that can have significant impact on its real-world performance. Some of these factors include:

  • Mechanical overload
  • Electrical overrange
  • Temperature compensation
  • Noise immunity
  • Accredited calibration

In the end, the objective is to have a sensor that provides dependable results in actual practical applications, and not just theoretical performance that can only be proven under controlled conditions. Having a basic understanding of what to look for when comparing performance specifications and features of different torque sensors will help to ensure selecting the proper sensor for the application.
