IGBT chopper rectifiers, which employ diode rectification and a modular configuration, have a higher power factor, lower harmonics, simplified transformer design, lower output ripple, higher efficiency and greater reliability and lifespan than thyristor rectifiers. Compared to equivalent thyristor rectifiers, chopper systems require less space, have a lower cost and longer life span along with built in N1 redundancy.

Medina Maric leads the industrial engineering group at Dynapower.
