Overview

Designing wireless systems to operate at mmWave frequencies presents unique challenges, calling for multi-disciplinary engineering teams with wide-ranging expertise in RF system design, digital signal processing, embedded software and emerging wireless standards. Test and measurement methodologies must be uniquely customized for the system at each stage of development, from initial signal test to production. Compounding the problem is the trend to de-centralized engineering teams widely scattered across locations and even time zones.

Fabricio Dourado, Senior Application Development Engineer, Rohde & Schwarz

Fabricio Dourado joined Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) in 1996 and worked in various roles of Test and Measurement product marketing and technical support covering customers in Europe, Americas and Asia. He primarily focused on Asia from 2001 to 2019, regularly meeting customers and system integrators, sharing experiences and involving them in the R&S process to further develop products and automated test systems. His specialties were first mobile radio test and remote control for production test. Later areas of expertise cover radar components, transceiver module test, performance differentiated radio front-ends (RFFE), component test up to 500GHz and multi-port network analysis. He joined the R&S Application Development in April 2020 with a focus on 5G-NR, automotive radar and over-the-air (OTA) testing.

Cecile Masse, Senior RF & Wireless Systems Architect, Otava

Orange County, California-based Cecile Masse has 20+ years of experience in the wireless and semiconductor industry. She has held a number of roles with a wide range of responsibilities, from full sub-systems radio design, IC products specification, system-level analysis and modeling, customer engagement, project management and training. Working for large corporations as well as start-up companies, she has defined numerous RF and mixed-signal products, and has also developed successful reference designs for multi-carrier GSM, 3G, 4G LTE and FR2 5GNR, both transmitters and receivers, including clocking and power management. The core of her expertise lies in wideband, high performance radio design. She holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the engineering college E.S.I.E.E, Paris, with majors in RF design and signal processing.

Luc F. Langlois, Director of Products & Emerging Technologies, Avnet

Luc Langlois specializes in Xilinx RFSoC-based development platforms for digital signal processing in wireless communication, SatCom, radar and RF instrumentation. He received his BSEE from École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1990 and also holds a B.Mus in music performance from Université de Montréal. He began his career at the Hydro Québec Research Institute, numerical analysis group, designing power system models and load flow study tools back when Fortran-77 was state of the art. He was an independent engineering consultant during the internet boom, focusing on digital audio before joining Memec-InSight as a Xilinx field applications engineer in 2000.
