High Performance Backplane Connectors for Space

This webinar will focus on Smiths Interconnects' newly space qualified KVPX Backplane Connector. KVPX connectors are qualified to EEE-INST-002 Level 1 and are equipped with Hypertac® space-qualified 0.4 mm hyperboloid sockets and provide immunity to shock and vibration fretting, numerous linear paths of contact, low-forces, high mating cycles, and a self-wiping cleaning action that results in consistently better integrity in extreme environments.

This webinar will focus on the details of Smiths Interconnect's KVPX Backplane Connector product offering. The presenters will discuss the different wafer configurations and inner workings of each type of connector as well as how these connectors are typically configured in different applications. We will review the specifications of the connectors and how they relate to current industry requirements for earth bornterrestrial as well as space systems as well as space.

You will learn how our Hypertac® space-qualified 0.4 mm hyperboloid sockets allows the KVPX Backplane Connector to perform under the most severe condition in demanding applications where failure is not an option. We will review the requirements of EEE-INST-002 and how Smiths Interconnect's space qualified version of KVPX meets those requirements.

Kevin DeFord has over 25 years of experience in test and development of high-speed interconnects and manages the Spring Probe Interposer and VPX Backplane product lines for Smiths Interconnect. His experience in test and measurement and his product knowledge are key to the development of solutions for some of the most challenging applications. DeFord graduated from Devry University in Kansas City, Missouri, with a degree in technical management and holds a degree in electronics.

Kyle Gobble, Product Line Manager Defense/Space/Aerospace Connectors, Smiths Interconnect

Kyle Gobble started over 4 years ago as a mechanical design engineer at Smiths Interconnect, developing our LightCONEX active-optical backplane connectors and is currently editor of the newly published VITA 66.5 Optical Interconnects on VPX standard. His involvement in VITA standards, VPX and other open architecture standards are key to providing innovative solutions for next generation systems. Gobble graduated from the University of North Florida with a degree in mechanical engineering.
