Overview

The power electronics industry has found a way to fast-track global efforts to shrink carbon footprints and transition to sustainable energy. This path is paved with wide bandgap (WBG) technologies such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). Compared to traditional silicon (Si) based counterparts, power modules using SiC enable operating at higher switching frequencies with lower power losses thanks to their excellent material properties for high breakdown electric field strength (x10 of Si), wide bandgap (x3 of Si), high thermal conductivity (x3 of Si).

SiC power modules as a game-changer:

  • Greater efficiency
  • More power in same footprint
  • High switching frequency and temperature
  • Light and compact system design

As technology continues to develop further, the adoption of SiC power modules is expected to grow. In particular, the huge investments and expansions in SiC capacities, driven mainly by e-mobility and cost optimization, make the technology more and more attractive for various applications.

This webinar explores the benefits of selected SiC use cases, such are hybrid inverters for renewable energy systems and energy storage systems, charging infrastructures for electric vehicles, UPS, and motor drive applications.
